Rococo

Sometimes referred to as Late Baroque, was a movement largely in architecture and the decorative arts. Rococo is incredibly ornamental in style and emphasized asymmetry, curves, gilding, and light, white or pastel colors. Rococo began in France in the 1730s in reaction to the formal and geometric Style Louis XIV, also called French Classicism. Originally a secular style of arts, Rococo was incredibly popular in churches in Central Europe and South America. It was intended to create a sense of awe upon entering a room or building, often featuring illusionistic ceiling paintings, which were designed to give the impression of looking up at the sky.
