Refers to the aesthetic attitudes and principles represented in the classical antiquity of the West. That is, emulating or referencing the culture, art, or literature of ancient Greece and Rome. Classicism emphasizes form, proportion, clarity, and restraint and attempts to appeal to intellect. Classicism has had a number of major and minor revivals throughout history, the most notable being the Italian Renaissance.
