Performance Art

Generally, Performance Art, also known as Live or Action Art, is a form of artistic expression created through actions. At its earliest, it originated around 1916 in parallel with Dadaism, with its intentions being a conceptual antithesis to traditional arts and theater. The term, however, didn’t emerge until the 1960s when it regained popularity. Performance art generally functions to challenge status quos and garner discussion about social issues as well as traditional concepts of art, what it is, and how it functions. It is typically ephemeral in nature due to its focus on authenticity, with, if any, only photographs or videos of the original performance.
