Installation Art

Developed in the late 1950s around the same time as Pop Art, Installation Art is generally a three dimensional, site specific work designed to transform a, typically indoor, space. Installation Art can be of any type of media and can incorporate interactive and non-visual aspects such as sound, video, performance, etc. and can exist in both public and private spaces. Not dissimilar to theater, installation art places an incredible importance on the role of the viewer or audience due to its demand of more than just visual interaction. Installation work relies on not just visuals, but sounds, touch, and an awareness of space.
