ANALOGUE: Urk - Flevoland "The Island of Freebooters In the Noordoostpolder, long straight drainage ditches slice through vast fields and meadows; you can almost see the ruler that was used to design this reclaimed land on a drawing board. This picture changes completely, however, when you reach the easternmost tip of the polder. This is Urk, a somewhat chaotic collection of wooden houses on a rise that residents call ‘the hump’. The whirl of streets, alleys and firebreaks inevitably leads to either the harbour or a church, the two pillars on which this village is built."
