Andrea’s encaustic Many Moons encompasses warm, soothing tones whilst complemented by darker tints of indigo and a splash of yellow. The color combinations break down barrier walls within the confining circles. The carefully arranged circular pattern maintains a homogenous and cohesive composition, providing a sense of place and familiarity amongst the darkness. Lunar activity in the piece poses as a symbol of eternity, the waxing and waning of the moon can be compared to rebirth and renewal. As with all of Andrea’s textural encaustic works, the torching and layering of molten wax with oil are reflective of nature’s elements taking form.
