Peter Tunney’s practice spans text, photography, painting, installation, and performance, drawing from the aesthetic of Pop art to comment on the uniquely American obsessions with consumerism and media. Tunney mines imagery from newspapers, magazines, and artist’s books, recontextualizing the original works with such bold headlines as “Don’t Panic,” “Fear Less,” and “Gratitude”; in doing so, he references both the language-based work of Christopher Wool and Mel Bochner and skewers the platitudes of advertising copy gleaned during his time in advertising. Tunney has shown internationally including at venues in New York, Miami, Basel.
