Between Dust & Dreams

It isn't a secret that I am always drawing inspiration from old magazines, advertisements, and movies, in particular Western films. As an artist, I'm always looking at various compositions on screen, environments, and narratives that I can then use as references for creating some of my more staged artwork concepts. Before this photograph was ever created, I had always been very fond of some of the John Wayne classics. After researching more about each one, I found out more about Anne-Margret, who starred in the film The Train Robbers. Anne was celebrated as an icon of the 1960s and 1970s cinema. There's a unique beauty to her, and I can only imagine the number of cowboys who were also drawn to her beauty and class back in her days on screen. With that in mind, I wanted to create a concept that mixed my love for filmmaking and my dedication to documenting the modern-day cowboy. The idea was to have a group of cowboys unfold a vintage poster of Anne-Margret and just have them admire it after a day of branding under the hot sun. A couple of them, with cigarettes hanging out of their mouths, muttered comments of flattery and talked more about cowgirls not just in cinema but the ones who work horseback alongside the men, bringing mystique and desirable traits along with them. There really are times when men also are known to daydream. I do believe that there's something inside every man that loves a woman in a pair of blue jeans and a cowgirl hat. This photo is meant to honor that fascination with a beauty unlike any other. I know the ladies will love this one. Our hats are off to you.
