For the past couple of years, I have flown all over the country from February to April to witness and photograph Polo matches, with most of my time spent in Wellington, Florida. Players from all over the world move their families for the season and compete on some of the most beautiful farms with some of the best horses. As my time on these fields became more well-known, I was given the opportunity to create a concept in Dallas, TX, of all places. In my mind, my initial reaction was, "Polo, in Texas? There's no way." But then again, I have also traveled to Bozeman, Montana, and seen showjumping, Polo, and Dressage which was a shocker to me back then. So, as I found the perfect model for the story I wanted to create, we chatted about the sport in Texas and how multiple teams play here, and are also from Argentina that travel around each season and compete. When I arrived at the barn, on one side was an indoor horse training arena for cutting horses, and on three different sides were pristine polo fields surrounding it. It was like my love for the western lifestyle and passion for horses in all industries just meshed together. Before the match, I was looking at some of the older saddles covered in spiderwebs hanging in the tack room. I pulled a few of the oldest ones out and set them up against a clean white backdrop to capture the details of them stacked on top of each other. These simple yet detailed photographs are some of my favorites to capture and see hanging in homes that also appreciate their simplicity. After setting up the set with a marble table, antique table settings, porcelain dishes, and of course, a bottle of Veuve Clicquot, I was introduced to the players. Once everything began and the late afternoon sun started to bring everything together, I captured this photograph just as the players and their horse ran by. It was the perfect timing and a photograph that has so much energy to it. I wanted the model to have her feet up on the table, showcasing a proper and elegant setting like you would see at any high-end Polo game, but with a bit of edge and attitude. If we're going to shoot a Polo-themed artwork in Texas, we might as well do it bigger. To the players, the horses, and the fans, this one's for you. Cheers!
