Elm took my breath away and filled the room like an age-old tree covering everything below it. He was a calm beauty and quietly held his eyes to mine. It’s moments like these that truly penetrate a person’s soul. What we would give to know what animals are thinking, to know what they know, to know how they see us. It was an honor to sit beneath Elm’s branches for as long as he chose to let me.
