Gator Birkin Monochrome
Medium: Light Jet, Silver Gelatin
Year: 2014
Edition Size: Edition of 3 + 2AP
During the recent lockdown, I discovered an unreleased image I shot for the Indulgence series back in 2014. I always get asked the same question regarding this photo, “Is the gator real?” At the beginning of the shoot, the handler told me the gator was feisty and we would not be able to get within six feet of him. However, by the end of the day, the gator and I understood each other like any subject I normally shoot. I knew I wanted to offer a special option for this image immediately after rediscovering it. There will be two sizes offered in Sliver Gelatin selenium toned prints and two sizes offered in normal Light Jet prints. The Silver Gelatin process is the photographic process used with currently available black-and-white films and printing papers. A suspension of silver salts in gelatin is coated onto a support such as glass, flexible plastic or film, baryta paper, or resin-coated paper.
